Research Paper- Rules and History of football As we all know, the Eriik Fisher Football Dream played a major Role in the book Tangerine. Many of us don't realize what the game of footballl is, or any of the rules to it. Football is a physical sport that was originated from the game Rugby, at a Rugby school in England. Football is a combination of rugby rules, and soccer rules. Many rules of both sports are incorporated into the game of football. Some include, staying inside the perimeter of the field, or even staying on your side of the field for kickoff at the beginning of each game. These are only a few of the many rules when playing the sport football. America is one of the few countries that call this sport football. Another country that calls American football, football, is Canada. Many countries such as Italy, call football, soccer. The major differerence between these two sports, is how they play. In soccer, you MUST use your feet. The only person who has an exception to that rule is the goalie. The goalie's job is to protect the goal from being scored on. The only time the goalie can use thier hands, is when they are in the 16 yard box on thier side of the field. They can only pick it up if it was a saved ball from the opposing team. If they pick it up and it was a ball/ pass from thier own teammate, then they will get penalized and the other team will receive a free kick. In football, you MUST use your hands. If you intentionally kick the ball, or the ball is kicked, you will receive a pentally that will end in a loss of yards for your team, or a technical (personal penalty) for that one person. The only player with the exception to that rule would be the kicker. The kicker's job is to kick the ball at the beginning of the half, for a field goal, or to punt the ball down the field instead of running the ball when all four of your downs are used. The history of football is told as an easy story. It is short and simple, as one man who made history, broke the rules of the rugby game. Many people play football today, but not all of us are aware of the circumstances the game requires.
